A central heating care scheme can assist a great deal by easing your labour costs

Summer time does not cause one to worry much about heating, but as long as you are used to your hot showers with no other alternatives, you might be in for some trouble if your boiler malfunctions when winter arrives. No one remembers about the gas boiler in their house until that day when it breaks down. And then you realise how important, not to mention expensive, it really is.

If you rent your home, you won’t have to worry about having some money aside for the central heating boiler repairs; your landlord will cover it. However things are different if you own the house, you then need to keep aside some money for getting the central heating boiler fixed in case it breaks down, unless you take out a central heating maintenance and repair plan.

Instead of repairing a ten year old boiler, consider installing a newer and more efficient system which could significantly cut down your utility bills and pay for itself in a number of years. Depending on the amount of space in your home, the size of your family and the existing boiler, you would have a choice as to the type of gas boiler to go for. If you have a small home with few people and do not want to wait for hot water then a combi boiler is your best option. Unlike a storage central heating system, a combi heating boiler warms the water directly at the mains, thus eliminating the tank section. With such a combi heating boiler, a hot shower is instantly available; however if another hot outlet is opened, your share of warm water will quickly run out and you shower could be a cold one.

Another type of gas boiler is the sealed system boiler which has a hot water storage tank and is usually used for large families, as it allows several showers and hot water taps to work at the same time. The system heating boiler needs not much space and it is quick and easy to install. The main disadvantage, however is that you will have to wait for the water in the tank to heat up.

An open vent central heating boiler is the norm in most older homes, and takes up the most space; two water tanks in the loft and a storage cylinder in the airing cupboard. Though it does not give the best pressure and takes a while to heat, it is very like a sealed system that can provide hot water to several outlets.

The fifth type is a back gas boiler which is bulkier, but can deliver hot water to several outlets under good pressure. Back boilers are usually stored in the chimney breast but if you do not have this type of heating boiler installed you will find that it is not worth shifting over to this form of heating. However, if you do already have a back heating boiler system installed in your home and it needs replacing, rather than getting a completely new system, it would be more sensible to get a new back gas boiler installed.

No matter what type of central heating boiler you have, it’s maintenance costs can be high if it has problems. So it is important to get a central heating insurance so that your costs are covered even if something goes wrong with your system. And you could save yourself even more if you take out a gas boiler breakdown policy that also includes yearly heating boiler inspections, giving you peace of mind that it is operating both safely and efficiently.
