Boiler energy cost-efficiency tips

Energy cost-efficiency and pruning energy consumption is critical to us all in present-day times. Gas bills seem to be forever on the rise and it is therefore also financially helpful to make better use of the energy you buy. The typical UK house spends around fifty percent of it’s gas costs on heating boiler gas use. Here’s a few easy to action advice to help you get lower energy expenses.

switch off central heating systems in areas where you do not need it :
Turn off the metal radiator in any rooms which are not used such as the guest room or utility room. Why heat rooms which are not going to be used, this only increases your gas consumption. closing the door to these rooms will also stop warm air leaking into them and chilly air flowing out.

Don’t use the fire if you can use the gas central heating :
A fire is far less cost-efficient than the boiler system. The chimney will mean that a lot of the heat created goes outside your home, the gas heating system is much more cost-efficient for heating than an electric fire.

Eliminate draughts with insulation
Draughts bring chilled air into your home wasting energy you have already paid for. Use draft excluders or entrance door brushes where they can be fitted. There can be gaps between the window and entrance door frames and a wall which are easily filled with a foam based sealer. If you live in an aging home you might be astonished how often these gaps occur. draughts can be hunted down by using a wax candle flame and checking when it flickers as you move around the room taking care not to drop any hot wax.

A jumper or blanket might mean you don’t need to switch up the heating :
If you are cold in the room put on some more clothing before you move to rise the thermostatic temperature. You may not recognise it but a small 1° decrease in the room temperature can save a large 10% on your heating use.

Make greater use on your drapes to control temperature :
The sun is very effective at heating your home in the winter, when shining, if you keep the curtains opened to allow it in. External temperatures drop at night time and your house can lose a lot of heat through the windows. Drapes can be an extra form of insulation and this time and cut heat loss if they are shut, saving a small amount each daylight amounts to a large saving on your heating costs over time. The heavier your drapes the best for providing this additional layer of insulation.

guidance around the home :
Check your gas boiler and whether it has a hot water cylinder as this should be insulated. Do not pay to heat water and then permit it cool down during the day.

Placing shiny foil at the rear of radiators could save a large sum each year.
