Decide what type of heating gas boiler you need

There are many different types of gas Gas Central Heating Systems available to you. Most if not all of these Central Heating Systems comprise of a gas boiler, some central heating radiators and connecting pipework.

Whilst we need central heating systems air conditioners are not needed in the UK and Europe because of the average temperature throughout the year. That is why in the UK most houses built these days are constructed with Gas Central Heating Systems fully integrated into the home.

As autumn fades and chilly winds begin to blow, homeowners turn to their Central Heating for warmth and comfort. A heated home has a comfortable and enjoyable feel to it. This security in winter is possible only if your Gas Central Heating System is infallible, well maintained and operating efficiently. Additionally, your central heating system should also be safe, user-friendly and durable.

Two kinds of Central Heating Systems are mainly in use; pumped/vented and sealed systems.

The vented/pumped one is more common of the two. A pumped/vented Central Heating System has a feed and expansion tank. The hot water storage tank provides your home with warm water and brings heat to the radiators. Water expands when heated; this expansion is accommodated in a feed-expansion tank. The tank is positioned at the point of maximum height, usually in the attic area to create water pressure. It not only heats the house, but also supplies hot water.

A pumped/vented Central Heating System is what most homes probably have, especially those built many years earlier.

A central heating boiler system that is somewhat newer and more modern and that most people are choosing nowadays over the pumped/vented Central Heating system is the sealed system. As the name indicates, a sealed system is a an enclosed system therefore no expansion water tanks are needed. This unvented system eliminates water tanks and attic plumbing, thus giving a number of advantages.

- The problem of freezing pipes is eliminated.

- There is no need to maintain the tanks and pipes as there are not present.

- The risk of leaks is decreased.

- Reduced risk of air locks, corrosion and sludge as there isn’t a chance of air being drawn down into the system through open vents as the system is sealed.

- Can be easily rinsed out under pressure via the main water supply.

All the required controls and safety devices are incorporated into the sealed Gas Central Heating systems. The water for the system is provided directly from the main water pipe of the house. The mains water goes straight to the sealed system.

Normal variations of pressure can be allowed in a sealed system through a pressure vessel that contains compressed gas; this is separated from the sealed system water by a diaphragm. A safety valve will let water to escape or fill up depending on whether the pressure becomes too high or too low respectively.

Central Heating Systems are worth the money as they are cheaper to run than any other form of heating. They also offer you all round control which is more than most heating systems do.
